Mayfield Village moves closer to prohibiting future ‘elder care’ facilities

Mayfield Village Council has moved one step closer to prohibiting additional memory care, assisted living and nursing home facilities within village borders.

Fire Chief Eugene Carcioppolo gave a brief a historic impact analysis presentation during council’s caucus meeting earlier this week that showed the two adult care facilities within the village — Governors Village located at 280 North Commons and the neighboring Altercare facility at 290 North Commons — represent 25 percent of the 1,411 calls they had last year.

“We’ve been utilized more since COVID due to private ambulance companies not having enough work force and contracts between private ambulance companies and facilities like this, ceasing to exist, because they can’t keep up with the demand,” Carcioppolo said. “So those calls have been kind of transitioned over to us. “My recommendation to everyone is I feel like we have a full gamut of what those services are to provide to the residents here…
