Beautiful weather for a late Summer weekend

It’s still officially Summer, but it certainly didn’t feel like it this week. We enjoyed highs in the Valley in the 80’s, which is about 10 degrees below average for this time of year! This weekend still looks nice, but the heat of Summer will return next week.

A relatively dry but still potent Summer storm moved into northern California this week, bringing showers to the Sierra Nevada and cooler temperatures everywhere! Our usual summertime ridge of high pressure will return soon, however, and that’s what will bring the heat back. Look for highs in the San Joaquin Valley around 90 this weekend, then up into the upper 90’s as quickly as Tuesday. We should continue with highs in the upper 90’s through the rest of the week.

The Garnet Fire has been quiet recently, thanks in part to cooler temperatures and higher humidity near the fire. As of early Saturday morning, it has burned over 58,000 acres, and is now 37% contained. With drier and warmer weather set to return, it may try to become active again. However, since it hasn’t moved much in the past few days, firefighters have had time to really strengthen the containment lines around it. Air quality could become an issue this weekend in the Sierra Nevada near the fire, mainly in Fresno & Madera counties. Down in the Valley, it should get a little hazy again…
