Perry County Council of the Arts under new leadership

The Perry County Council of the Arts has entered a new chapter under the leadership of executive director Sam Horvath, a Central Pennsylvania native who joined the nonprofit this summer with a clear-eyed vision and deep passion for the arts.

Horvath, who spent 15 years in New York City working in nonprofit theater and private-sector marketing, said the decision to return to Pennsylvania was deeply personal. “The arts were transformative to me as a young person. They are responsible for developing most of my best traits, as well as my social circle and lifelong friendships.”

His new role at PCCA marries years of experience in fundraising, storytelling and audience development with his personal background as a practicing visual artist. Horvath paints in oil and opaque watercolors, and says his artistic sensibility helps him relate directly to PCCA members. “Working as an artist gives me credibility when I speak to our artist members. It’s a shared lived experience and a shared language.”…
