BERKS COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A 77-year-old Berks County man has been sentenced and fined $50,000 for his role in an art fraud scheme, according to an update from the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
Carter Reese, 77, of Reading, was sentenced to 60 days and prison, followed by 2 years of supervised release, and four months of home detention in connection with a scheme where he reportedly defrauded art customers by “making false representations about the source and authenticity of certain art purportedly created by prominent artists.”
According to the district attorney’s office, between February 2019 and March 2021, Reese sold and attempted to sell art as genuine pieces by multiple well known artists, including Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jean Cocteau, Keith Haring, Fernand Léger, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol, among others…
