Auburn Police Officer’s car hit by drunk driver

SYRACUSE, N.Y (WSYR-TV)– An Auburn Police Car, which was occupied by an Auburn police officer, was hit by a drunk driver.

On September 13, 2025, at 3:49 PM, a marked police car was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of North Street and Seymour Street.

An officer was on routine patrol, driving southbound on North Street in the outside lane. A civilian vehicle operated by Michael Nielens was traveling northbound on North Street in the inside lane. Nielens began making a left to turn onto Seymour Street in front of oncoming traffic when he hit the marked patrol vehicle, causing airbags to go off in both vehicles.

Auburn fire and Auburn ambulance responded. The officer was later driven to Auburn Community Hospital for medical treatment…
