Since I was a kid, I’ve always had some sort of jar filled with coins. Back when I was growing up, I would actually use them to buy stuff. There was some in my car to pay tolls. Most people paid cash for stuff, so they came in handy when you’re bill wasn’t just a straight amount.

Nowadays, I often think to myself, what do I do with this huge jar of change. I barely use cash to buy anything anymore, so I’m not going to lug around a pocket full of coins. Are coins eventually gonna go completely away? Well, there’s a group of people in Illinois that believe they still have value.

There is a category of thieves in Illinois who steal coins. They are breaking into vending machines and anything that operates with change. These criminals are sneaking into apartment building laundry rooms and hitting the washers and dryers. Those robbers must believe it’s less risky and that it has significant value.
