WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – To honor the sacrifice over 300 firefighters made on Sept. 11, 2001, firefighters from across Kansas and its surrounding states made the grueling trek up 110 floors for the Wichita 9/11 Memorial Climb on Sunday.
It is meant to mimic the climb that firefighters made on that day 24 years ago, since there are no buildings tall enough in Wichita. KSN followed them as they made the trip up, down, then back up again.
“Firemen always take the stairs, right? There’s mass evacuation; it’s a very tall building full of people, so a lot of different companies took the stairwell and started doing their jobs,” Lieutenant Brandon Barnes with the Wichita Fire Department said…
