COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina law enforcement leaders are launching a special program called “Operation Keep Us Safe,” after three South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers were struck by vehicles in separate incidents in the last month, including one that turned deadly.
Multiple agencies gathered Monday morning at the Department of Public Safety headquarters in Columbia to deliver a clear message to drivers: slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.
“Working on the side of the road is dangerous work,” said Colonel Christopher Williamson, commander of the Highway Patrol. “But what we didn’t sign up for is a blatant disregard for our safety that seems to be running rampant… Enough is enough.”…
