Tucson bookstore fights falling reading rates

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The number of Americans reading for pleasure have declined drastically, according to a study from the University College London and the University of Florida. The share of people who reported reading for fun fell from 28% in 2004 to 16% in 2023 — an overall drop of about 40%.

That number should be bad news for bookstores, but one local store is bucking the trend.

Stacks Book Club in Oro Valley is an independently owned bookstore and cafe. They opened in 2023, and are expecting to open a second location early next year…
