AROUND ALASKA: Center Reopens, Electric Van, and Hunger Run!

It’s good news for families and all residents in Big Lake. The Big Lake Lions Club Recreation Center is now officially back open with regular hours. This weekend, Mat-Su Borough invited community members out for a big grand reopening event. After being a staple in Big Lake for over a decade, the facility was purchased by the Mat-Su Borough earlier this year.

Sitka’s Parks and Recreation team has a new set of wheels. A brand new electric van arrived earlier this month. Officials in Sitka say it will offer free rides for families, providing better access to community programs, all the while keeping the air clean.

The University of Alaska Anchorage is inviting community members to join the fight against hunger. The “UAA Spirit Run: Run Against Hunger” is set for next Friday, September 26, at 6 p.m. Money raised through this event will support food insecurity efforts on campus…
