Man sentenced to state prison for taking over 1K intimate photos, videos of coworker

ALBANY — A Schenectady man was sentenced to two to six years in state prison Friday for secretly recording photos and videos of a coworker without her knowledge.

Joseph Munafo, 61, was sentenced by Judge Roger McDonough after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance.

The victim, a coworker of 20 years, reported Munafo to Colonie Police on Oct. 24, 2023, after observing him recording her underneath her clothing. An investigation found Munafo had taken more than 1,000 photos and videos of the woman between 2022 and October 2023. These recordings listed different video file names and occurred at locations such as Columbia Circle East Drive, White Pine Drive, and Washington Avenue Extension in Albany and at the Karner Road Post Office in Colonie, where he worked.

Munafo, who has since retired from the Postal Service, turned himself in to Colonie Police and was arrested on Jan. 4, 2024. He was initially indicted on 11 felony counts of unlawful surveillance and could have faced up to 20 years in prison if convicted on all charges…
