Police: Fort Wayne couple arrested for abusing teenage daughter

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Police in Fort Wayne responded to a domestic situation on Vance Avenue on Tuesday, August 26. They found a 15-year-old girl who may have been abused.

Detective Michelle Brown of the Crimes Against Persons unit led the investigation. She discovered that Robert J. Egly and Shayla E. Mathews, the girl’s mother, were involved. They allegedly forced the girl to do excessive exercise daily as punishment and limited her food to one small meal each day.

On August 26, Egly reportedly hit the girl multiple times, leaving visible injuries. The girl was treated at Parkview Hospital, and the Department of Child Services was informed…
