Former Bayou La Batre police officer charged with rape wants charges dismissed

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) — William “BJ” Squires is asking a judge to dismiss rape and sexual abuse charges against him for the state’s failure to prosecute the case.

The motion filed by the Mobile Public Defenders Office asks Circuit Court Judge Michael Windom to throw out the indictments because of “bureaucratic inefficiency.”

The filing notes that the DA’s office has stated to the Public Defender’s office that they will not be ready to try the case until June 2026…
