Hit-and-run leaves car overturned in Martin County canal, couple rescued by deputies

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Two people had a close call after they were struck from behind by another vehicle in a hit-and-run, causing their car to spin out of control and flip over into the canal in a remote area in Martin County.

Martin County Sheriff John Bundenseik said in a news conference that, despite the car filling with water, the two people trapped in the vehicle were able to dial 911. With help from the MCSO’s tracking system, deputies were able to pinpoint the area where they were located.

On Saturday night, two people were traveling on a dark road in the northern area of 714 when they were suddenly struck by what is believed to be a “white work truck vehicle.”…
