Norfolk mother awaits justice as murder suspect is accused of another murder while on bond

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Monique Smith is left wondering if justice will ever be served in the 2023 shooting death of her daughter, Dyamond Hamilton, after the man charged in her death now faces separate murder charges for a shooting that killed a man Sept. 5.

Virgil Mack, Jr., set to go to trial for Hamilton’s death Sept 29, allegedly shot and killed 35-year-old Ontario Spivey at a convenience store in Louisiana before fleeing the scene. Investigators used surveillance video and license plate reader technology to identify and track Mack.

When troopers attempted to stop Mack, he fled, leading to a pursuit that ended across state lines in Texas. Mack was taken into custody and is being held at Courthouse Jail in Harrison County, Texas.
