Woman acquitted of recklessly discharging gun during confrontation with brother

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A woman who was accused of firing a gun during a confrontation with her brother was acquitted last week after her public defender argued she not only never fired a shot — she wasn’t even armed.

The case against Dolorez Ontiveroz was built on lies from relatives who sided with the brother and an incomplete investigation, Deputy Public Defender Cathy Miralda said in a release from the Public Defender’s Office.

“The jury saw through those flaws and correctly recognized that the evidence was not only insufficient, but that my client is innocent,” Miralda said. “Ms. Ontiveroz never had a gun. The witnesses lied to protect themselves from their own wrongdoing.”…
