Casa de la Cultura shares rhythms of Hispanic heritage

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A group in Lexington is turning up the rhythm. A local nonprofit is showcasing the beauty of Mexican traditions with an annual festival full of color, culture and community.

Dancers with Casa De La Cultura’s, Ballet Folklorico are preparing for their performance at the annual Viva Mexico celebration at Masterson Station Park. Each dance represents a different Mexican state. Founder of Casa De La Cultura, Monica Calleja said the group dances February through November.

“Every one of those have their own custom, every one of them have their own steps, different rhythms, it’s very interesting to see the variety of the Mexican culture,” Calleja said…
