Murder charges filed against suspect in fatal stabbing of S.F. father

The suspect in the fatal stabbing of a father who was walking with his 8-year-old son near Commodore Sloat Elementary School last week has been charged with murder and child endangerment, officials said Monday.

Daniel Patrick Rodriguez, 42, attacked Robert Paul Byrd II, 35, as he walked in a crosswalk with his son on Wednesday — a fatal stabbing that resulted in Byrd’s death at a local hospital, officials said.

S.F. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced the charges on Monday at a news conference at the DA’s office.

“A number of investigators are wrapping together right now to work with this family, to address their needs going forward,” Jenkins said after the announcement. “Of course, we are all mourning for this child who was present during this incident and want to make sure that we deliver justice for this family. And quite honestly, for this entire community.”…
