Countryside, IL – Police Warn of Credit Card Scam at Shopping Centers, Victims Tricked Into $500 Fraudulent Charges

Countryside, IL – Shoppers in Countryside are being warned about an ongoing credit card scam after two incidents were reported this past week at local shopping centers.

According to the Countryside Police Department, the first incident occurred on Sunday, September 7, when a woman at Countryside Plaza was allegedly approached by two males asking for a $10 donation. The suspects reportedly used a payment device, but the victim later discovered a $500 charge instead of the agreed amount.

The following day, September 10, witnesses at TJ Maxx on South Brainard Avenue reported seeing two males speaking with elderly shoppers and allegedly photographing their credit cards. Police said the men fled to a white Jeep when spotted, but were later stopped and turned over to Hodgkins Police, who were investigating a related scam in their jurisdiction…
