HCSO achieves NIBRS certification to advance transparency, public safety

JANS – The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office received its official certification as a National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) agency August 29, 2025. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the department’s commitment to data-driven policing, transparency, and accountability.

NIBRS, administered by the FBI, replaces the legacy Summary Reporting System and provides a more comprehensive and detailed view of crime in our communities. By adopting NIBRS standards, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office joins a growing number of law enforcement agencies nationwide that are embracing modernized crime reporting to better inform public safety strategies, policy decisions, and community engagement.
