Two Anchorage Hunters Rescued from Bear Mountain Near Seward

SEWARD — Two Anchorage men were safely rescued early Monday after becoming stranded on Bear Mountain during a hunting trip.

Alaska State Troopers in Seward said they received a call for help around 8:34 p.m. Sunday from 26-year-old Michael Partrick and 42-year-old Ian Wheeles. The pair had started up the trailhead at about 3 a.m. for a hunt, but lost their way while attempting to descend the mountain later that day.

The Rescue Coordination Center was called in to assist, arriving in Seward just before 2:40 a.m. Monday. Shortly after 3:15 a.m., an Air National Guard crew was able to hoist the hunters from the mountainside and transport them to the Seward Airport. Neither man was injured…
