Tyson Foods Announces Major Recipe Overhaul, Eliminating High-Fructose Corn Syrup and Artificial Ingredients
Tyson Foods, the meat processing giant, announced Monday that it will eliminate high-fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, and other additives from its product lineup. This change will affect popular brands like Jimmy Dean and Hillshire Farm and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 in the U.S.
The company’s decision follows recent statements by U.S. Health Secretary Robert F.
Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary regarding the government’s plan to phase out synthetic food dyes. This isn’t Tyson’s first step towards “cleaner” products.
Earlier this year, the company announced plans to remove petroleum-based synthetic dyes from its production process.
According to Tyson Foods CEO Donnie King, this move reflects the company’s “ongoing commitment to feeding the world like family,” while maintaining the taste and quality consumers expect.
The ingredients being removed include high-fructose corn syrup, the artificial sweetener sucralose, titanium dioxide, and the synthetic antioxidants BHA and BHT. While these additives are currently approved by the FDA, they have faced criticism from health groups due to potential links to health concerns such as obesity and hyperactivity.
