Norfolk to close downtown flood gates Tuesday

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The evening high tide in Norfolk Tuesday is expected to peak around 6 p.m. and will bring minor and moderate flooding to low-lying areas of the city.

A 10 a.m. update from Norfolk Emergency Management said 2.17 inches of rain had already fallen Tuesday, with another 2-3 inches possible before the end of the day. The area is under a flood watch.

The York Street parking garage is available for residents to park for free until Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. to get their vehicles to higher ground.

The Storm Water Division will be closing the swing gate at Nauticus and Brooke Avenue at approximately noon Tuesday.
