Kentucky Man Faces Murder Charge After Juvenile Shot in Head Dies at Hospital

FRANKFORT, KY — A 27-year-old Frankfort man has been charged with murder after a juvenile victim in a Sunday shooting at an apartment complex died from his injuries. Authorities confirmed the suspect is also facing multiple additional charges tied to the violent incident.

Shooting at Ashwood Court

Police said the shooting occurred around 11:18 a.m. Sunday at an apartment on Ashwood Court. When officers arrived, they found two victims — a juvenile male with a gunshot wound to the head and an adult male with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Both were rushed to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Initially reported in critical condition, the juvenile later died, according to the Fayette County Coroner.

Suspect Arrested Nearby

Officers identified the suspect as Makale L. Marks, 27, of Frankfort. According to the arrest citation, Marks was located shortly after the shooting at a nearby spot wearing only shorts and shoes.

The firearm allegedly used in the attack was later found in a trash can close to the crime scene.

Charges Filed Against Marks

With the juvenile’s death, Marks now faces a murder charge in addition to several other offenses, including:

  • First-degree assault
  • First-degree burglary
  • First-degree wanton endangerment (discharge of a firearm)
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

During a court appearance, Marks pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bond has been set at $1 million.
