Imani Reba Water, 29, of Atlanta, is accused of animal cruelty on Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at Wellstar Physical Therapy, 818 Church Street in Marietta, according to an arrest warrant from the Marietta Police Department.
At approximately 4:40 p.m., a witness reported seeing a mid-sized dog in distress inside a white U-haul van parked in the Wellstar Physical Therapy parking lot. Upon arrival, police found the front windows were slightly cracked and an adult pit bull was sitting in the back seat, panting heavily, with saliva hanging from his mouth. The dog had no access to the front windows because of a cage separating the rear portion of the vehicle from the front seats. The outside temperature was 91 degrees Fahrenheit. Police conducted an initial interior temperature check of the vehicle using a handheld infrared thermometer aimed through the cracked front window. The interior temperature read 129 degrees, according to the warrant.
At approximately 4:55 p.m., Water approached police from across the street where she was working. Water said she was in the process of moving and had left the dog in the vehicle for over three hours. She then unlocked the door and removed the dog as police conducted another internal temperature assessment. This reading showed 112 degrees where the dog was kept, 115 degrees at the cage divider and 129 degrees on the front dashboard, according to the warrant…
