Mobile’s two mayoral candidates believe the National Guard can serve purposes that support Mobile, but fighting crime is not one of them.
State Rep. Barbara Drummond and former Mobile County District Judge Spiro Cheriogotis, during an AL.com debate hosted by AARP, said the city’s police department is sufficient to address crime in one of Alabama’s largest cities.
“I’m not looking for the federal government to take over city government,” said Drummond, a Democrat. “I think we can protect and solve our own problems. I don’t want law enforcement to be politicized. We are talking about people and I think we need local people to solve local problems.”…
