3 arrested in Mobile in organized retail theft incident

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Three people were arrested Monday on allegations of organized retail theft, according to Mobile police.

According to an MPD news release, at about 4 p.m. on Monday, a Walmart asset protection employee alerted an officer, who was working an extra job at the Walmart Super Center at 101 East I-65 Service Road South, to several people who had reportedly stolen some items.

The employee reported that the individuals were skip-scanning various items at the self-check-out register.

Antonio Pettaway, 42, Kentisha Hemingway, 39, and Tykeria Pettaway, 23, all of Mobile, were arrested and charged with organized retail theft. The value of the items not scanned was not disclosed. The three were taken to Metro Jail.

According to police, Alabama law 13A-8-226 defines organized retail theft as “when a person, in association with one or more other persons, knowingly organizes, supervises, participates, directs, or otherwise assists another person in committing the theft.”…
