Roanoke to improve safety on accident-prone Williamson Road

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- The City of Roanoke is set to begin its effort to improve safety along Williamson Road.

The nearly ten-mile corridor, which connects the city with Botetourt County, is prone to motor vehicle crashes. some of them fatal.

Beginning September 29, crews will work to reconfigure the travel lanes from Pocahontas Avenue to Angell Avenue by adding a center turning lane. According to the press release, the northbound and southbound lanes will each be reduced to one lane. The street will also be “restriped to look and function as a standard roadway.” The project is expected to take six months to complete.
