JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Mississippi is a long way from New York and Washington, but the effects of the 9/11 terrorist attacks were felt here 24 years ago September 11.

The Jackson airport was a ghost town after all air traffic nationwide was grounded. Churches across central Mississippi held services to pray for the victims and for the country. Local fire departments held prayer vigils for the many firefighters who died that day. Long lines formed at gas stations out of fear that gasoline might be hard to find after the attack. Metro-area stores sold out of American flags, which were suddenly in high demand…
