Wild game, Wildly good cause: South Plains Sweethearts annual fundraiser to be held this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas — A group of passionate moms and community members are making a big difference for South Plains youth involved in agriculture. Now, they’re inviting the public to join their efforts at an upcoming Wild Game Dinner fundraiser.

The South Plains Sweethearts is a nonprofit organization founded by Taddy Beuke and Ashley Mimms. Dedicated to supporting local students who compete at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo, the group has raised over $135,000 for students across the region and was recently recognized as one of the Top 30 buyers out of 300 at the show.

“I didn’t grow up in livestock,” said Beuke. “But as a buyer for my company, I noticed that South Plains kids weren’t getting the same support as local San Antonio kids… and they work just as hard.”

Sweetheart member Celey Stone, who also has children participating in 4-H, added, “We’ve experienced the same disappointment, our kids place well at San Antonio, but they just don’t bring in as much money. We knew we had to do something to change that.”…
