New Orleans inches closer to a drought

New Orleans hasn’t had any measurable rain this month, the National Weather Service says, and it’s going to be at least several more days before some might fall.

Why it matters: Drought conditions are creeping across southeast Louisiana.

The big picture: Normally, New Orleans would have had at least 3 inches of rain by mid-September, according to historical NWS records.

  • Last year, more than 15 inches fell month-to-date, primarily courtesy of Hurricane Francine.
  • This year? Nada.

Between the lines: NWS meteorologist Danielle Manning says the city has had a popup shower or two this month, but they haven’t been over the weather station at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport…
