Olathe man, self-reporting 170 mph speeds on motorcycle near Emporia, arrested after brief law enforcement search

An Olathe man faces possible charges after allegedly traveling at high speeds and walking through two west Emporia shopping developments as law enforcement was searching for him.

The Kansas Highway Patrol arrested 20-year-old Brayden Lee Barnett late Monday afternoon. Troopers say Barnett self-reported driving his motorcycle at around 170 mph as he approached Emporia, although the motorcycle was too far away from law enforcement to confirm that speed. However, troopers say Barnett was weaving in and out of traffic, including construction zones, at high speeds before eventually coming off the Interstate and going to Walmart. Security footage allegedly identified Barnett walking through the store, exiting outside the back and walking to the Emporia Pavilions. Barnett was arrested at the Five Below bathroom…
