Erie police will host adult clinics about teen substance use

Throughout this school year, the Erie Police Department will host a clinic for parents and guardians to learn about teen substance use. The free clinics will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 30, Nov. 20, Jan. 15, March 19 and May 7, according to Erie’s website.

Each session led by a school resource officer will provide information about the risks of drugs, alcohol and vaping among Erie youth, while also sharing tools to “recognize warning signs and open conversations at home,” an announcement from the police department said.

A school resource officer is trained in school-based law enforcement and crisis response and takes on three main roles in schools — “educator (i.e. guest lecturer), informal counselor/mentor and law enforcement officer” — according to the National Association of School Resource Officers…
