The Cumberland City Board of Mayor and Aldermen met September 4 at City Hall with all members present. First on the agenda, Mayor Phil Taylor said he’s been in contact with the Regional Manager of the Dollar General about the overgrown brush on the property. She said they would take care of it and get some bush hogging done. Taylor also said he spoke to the owner of the building across the street from City Hall and she informed him she has obtained a contractor to demolish the building and it could be done in 30 to 60 days. She’s just waiting on the contractor. The building has been falling apart for years.
Next, the discussion turned to having a resolution to change the town’s charter to say if a contractor needs to get under a street, they can bore instead of dig. “Unless it is not possible to do that, if it is not possible it will have to be looked at by someone at the City to approve a cut across the road. That is just to protect our asphalt,” Taylor said. Taylor said they would get a resolution put together and vote on this at the next meeting.
For the next item of business, Taylor said some builders have come before the planning commission and the city has, “Set back codes for the front, back and sides,” of the property they are building. He said everything being done now meets the set back requirements, but their codes inspector David Kimberling said older houses that have been there a while are not meeting the set backs. “We’ll just match what’s there if something new comes in.”…
