Carjacking Suspect Was On Probation And Wanted At The Time

Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection with a carjacking that occurred last month in the city.

Officials said on August 18, officers responded to the 2000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. following reports of a carjacking. The case was assigned to Detective Joran Merced of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of the investigation, police identified 37-year-old Walter Lafferty as the suspect responsible police said Wednesday.

Lafferty was later taken into custody by the Middletown Police Department and charged with Robbery in the First Degree and Offensive Touching. Following his arrest, he was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $20,250 cash-only bail…
