AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Independent School District is the latest large district in Texas to get one step closer to shutting down schools because of budget concerns.
Of the largest 25 school districts in Texas based on enrollment, at least 15 of them have announced over the past year they are considering closures or have said they intend to move forward with school consolidation.
