Polk County Sees a Slight Increase in Homelessness

(Des Moines, IA) — Homeward, Polk County’s homelessness planning organization, has released its latest Point-in-Time Count survey.

The Summer 2025 PIT Count is a survey of people experiencing homelessness in Polk County within a given 24 hour period. The summer survey identified 768 people experiencing homelessness. The survey found that the number of homeless in Polk County had risen since the winter survey, but was only higher by four people since last summer’s survey.
