Dairy Drive homeless encampment contract extension fails, falling just 1 vote short

MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Common Council was one vote short of extending the Dairy Drive’s contract after Tuesday’s meeting that went into the early hours of Wednesday.

These tiny homes on Dairy Drive began as housing for people in November 2021 after the city responded to an “unsafe” unregulated encampment at Reindahl Park. Roughly 100 people without access to housing have lived in their temporary homes since its inception.
