More emerald ash borers found in Yamhill County

The insidious beetles found in a trap five miles north of Yamhill

The scourge of the emerald ash borer has made additional inroads into Yamhill County.

According to a recent report by the Oregon Department of Forestry, more of the tiny green beetles showed up recently in traps in Yamhill County and several other counties that were within the boundary of a quarantine designed to thwart the invasion. The other quarantined areas include Clackamas, Washington and Marion counties. The beetle was first spotted in Yamhill County near Gaston in 2024.

“Quarantine is designed to prevent humans from spreading (the beetle) by limiting movement of firewood or any other plant materials from ash, olive or white fringetree,” according to Cody Holthouse, manager of the Oregon Department of Agriculture’s Insect Pest Prevention and Management Program…
