1 arrested after medical helicopter, onboard nurse hit by gunfire in central Alabama

AUTAUGA COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – A man is under arrest after gunfire struck a medical helicopter and one of the medics onboard as it was responding to an emergency call in central Alabama early Wednesday morning.

Autauga County Sheriff Mark Harrell said the incident happened around 4:20 a.m. in the area of County Road 51. That’s where volunteer firefighters had set up a landing zone in an open pasture.

Harrell said as the Haynes Life Flight chopper arrived at the site, several shots rang out. The aircraft’s right-side window was hit by the gunfire and the sheriff said an onboard flight nurse was subsequently struck by the bullet’s ricochet…
