Red light cameras coming to several Richmond intersections as part of pilot program

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Cameras will soon be placed at several intersections in Richmond to catch drivers passing through red lights as part of an expansion of the city’s Safety Camera Program.

Starting at the end of September, Richmond’s Safety Camera Program will expand to address crash-prone intersections on the city’s High Injury Network, or where the most deaths and serious injuries have occurred, with red light enforcement cameras to be installed at several intersections, weather permitting.

Using crash patterns and violation data, the city’s Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Richmond Police Department collaborated to identify 10 pilot locations across the city’s High Injury Network…
