Napa woman faces charges in fatal pedestrian collision

(KRON) — A 24-year-old driver was going twice the posted speed limit on a Napa roadway when she fatally struck a 70-year-old man who was in a crosswalk, authorities said Wednesday.

The fatal pedestrian crash occurred on Sept. 10 at 5:37 a.m. at the intersection of Soscol Avenue and Third Street. Police investigators said the driver, identified as Napa resident Eva Zuniga, was “fatigued” and traveling east of Third Street at approximately 40 mph in a 20 mph zone.

The victim, identified as Charles Corrigan, of Napa, was walking with a shopping cart northbound on Soscol from the southwest curb of the intersection.

“Corrigan stepped off the curb into the crosswalk on a yellow light that quickly turned red,” the Petaluma Police Department wrote. “Zuniga did not brake or make any attempt to avoid Corrigan in the crosswalk, striking him.”…
