El Paso, West Texas groups get $2.3M to help veterans

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Organizations and agencies that support veterans in El Paso and West Texas received $2.3 million in grants from the Texas Veterans Commission on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

This funding will provide essential services benefiting over 48,000 veterans and their families in the West Texas region, state Sen. Cesar Blanco, D-El Paso, said.

The grant recipients and their respective amounts are as follows:

  • Jeff Davis County:
    • $345,000 grant for veteran housing support
    • $350,000 grant for veteran services
  • El Paso County:
    • $285,000 grant for veteran treatment court program
    • $400,000 grant for veteran services
  • YWCA El Paso del Norte Region: $250,000 grant
  • Child Crisis Center of El Paso: $235,000 grant
  • Project Amistad: $200,000 grant
  • The Salvation Army – El Paso: $150,000 grant for homeless veteran support
  • City of El Paso: $120,000 grant for transportation programs and services
