Washoe County libraries face periodic closures amid staffing shortages

The Washoe County Library System has announced periodic closures at several branches due to staffing shortages. The Downtown Reno, Sparks, and North Valleys libraries will be closed on certain days in September and October, according to a recent social media post by the library.

Jamie Hemingway, the Public Information and Development Officer for the Washoe County Library, said, “A lot of our branches, they’re down by a few people. So that makes it really hard to cover some of the front line desks that we need to cover, to be there to help people.”

On August 29, the Downtown Reno location opened at 1 p.m. instead of the usual 10 a.m., and on September 9, the Duncan/Traner branch was forced to close…
