Indianapolis, IN – An Indiana woman has been arrested and charged with the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend after a violent domestic dispute early Saturday morning. Police say Mirla Gonzalez-Palma, 31, stabbed Breyner “Breynerd” Perez-Matute, 20, in the chest after he allegedly assaulted her in front of her 12-year-old son.
The Incident and Initial Claims
According to court documents and police statements, Gonzalez-Palma initially claimed she acted in self-defense after Perez-Matute hit her during an argument. She said she didn’t feel afraid for her safety but was “enraged” after being struck in the face with a closed fist and open hand. The alleged assault occurred at an apartment in Indianapolis’ Dutchtown neighborhood.
Witness Accounts and Escalation
A friend of Gonzalez-Palma, who was at the scene, provided a statement to police describing the altercation. The friend reported hearing an argument, then seeing Perez-Matute hit Gonzalez-Palma in the face, prompting both individuals to physically fight. The friend said she intervened and removed Perez-Matute from the apartment.
While trying to calm the situation, the friend said Perez-Matute rushed back inside and began strangling Gonzalez-Palma. In response, Gonzalez-Palma allegedly grabbed a knife and later admitted to stabbing Perez-Matute in the chest during the altercation.
Gonzalez-Palma’s Confession and Emotional Reaction
Police say Gonzalez-Palma later admitted to the stabbing but insisted she didn’t intend to kill Perez-Matute. In the aftermath, she allegedly expressed remorse upon learning of his death, stating that she and Perez-Matute had plans to build a house together. She told police she was drunk, enraged, and wanted vengeance following the earlier assault.
Gonzalez-Palma also reportedly admitted to a bite mark on Perez-Matute’s chest from an earlier argument, and said she followed him outside after the initial fight because she was seeking revenge.
