Wilmington residents, small businesses voice frustration over recent reassessments

Fusco’s Water Ice has stood as a landmark in the Little Italy neighborhood for over 65 years, but its fourth-generation owner said the recent property reassessment may send them out of the city for good.

Joseph Stafferi spoke during a Wilmington City Council Intergovernmental Committee listening session on residents and business concerns about the effects of the recent property tax reassessment on property taxes.

Fusco’s original location on Union Street saw their school tax bill increase by 156% to $3,342.62, and based upon the Red Clay School District’s decision to split tax rates by increasing the bills for commercial properties, the increase jumps another $1,300, making it a 255% increase overall…
