The Unattended Death of Staffer For Tony Gonzales, Congressman For Far-East El Paso, Likely Accidental According to Officials

UVALDE, Tx., September 18, 2025: Multiple news outlets have reported that a staffer for U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-23) died last Sunday from burn injuries she suffered. Gonzales is the congressional representative for the far-east side of El Paso. The body of Regina Santos-Aviles (35) was discovered by paramedics responding to a disturbance.

Santos-Aviles’ mother found her daughter at home after what the mother described as “an accident,” according to the San Antonio Express News. Santos-Aviles had suffered burns on her body at her home on Saturday evening.

Uvalde Volunteer Firemen responded to a call last Saturday at around 9:00 in the evening to what dispatchers described was “of an individual on fire.” According to Uvalde police chief, Homer E. Delgado, there are no indications of foul play but that it is common practice for unattended deaths to be investigated…
