‘Honk for Change’ movement protests what members see as unconstitutional government actions

Every Wednesday about 4:30 p.m., a group of Central Louisiana residents gathers near the Jackson Street Bridge in Alexandria to exercise their First Amendment right to free speech and assembly and to urge motorists to “Honk for Change.”

“We’re trying to just find other people in the community that are taking issue with all the unconstitutional things that we feel like are going on,” said organizer Erin Tracy of Alexandria as she was setting out placards. They also want to raise awareness and genuinely show people who are quietly scared, who may not feel safe in the community or feel like they’re in the minority because this is an overwhelming “red area,” that they are not alone.

Tracy organized the event about a month ago after she saw that it was being done in Baton Rouge. She reached out to them because she liked the idea and they provided the Alexandria group with posters and other things…
