Precious Cruse, the owner of a now-defunct Milwaukee prenatal care company, has been convicted of 17 federal charges, including healthcare fraud, identity theft, paying kickbacks and money laundering, Mary Spicuzza reports in a follow-up to our 2022 investigation.

The investigation by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel found signs of widespread fraud in Wisconsin’s prenatal care coordination program, which was created to help prevent babies from dying before their first birthdays.

“Cruse exploited vulnerable pregnant women and young mothers by luring them into the company’s prenatal care coordination program with kickbacks in the form of free baby items such as car seats, pack ‘n plays, diapers, and baby wipes,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin said in a statement…
