CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio – For some fans, the pairing of the biker-rock-friendly, then R&B-pop-friendly sounds of The Doobie Brothers with the laid-back, Gulf Coast country-rock-flavored songs of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band may seem a bit odd. But Wednesday night at a three-quarter-full Blossom Music Center, the two veteran bands dug into their respective catalogs to deliver good sets of mostly familiar songs for a midweek-rocking, boomer-heavy crowd.
The current Brothers Doobie lineup is an octet featuring founding members singer-songwriter-guitarists Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston, who gave the band its early rock with a dash of folk and country, and keyboardist-singer Michael McDonald, who changed the band’s sound and commercial fortunes when he joined in 1975.
The band also released its 16th studio album, “Walk This Road,” this summer and peppered four of that album’s songs into the set, briefly slowing the show’s momentum before ending the 95-minute show with a string of hits…
